Chuck Willard has over 20 years of experience building race motors. He spent 10 years as Machine Shop Manager at Art's Auto Parts and CarQuest from the late 80's through most of the 90's.
During this time Chuck was also very involved in racing, serving many years as technical inspector at Sunset Speedway. In addition, Chuck also began to do motor work on the side for many of the local racers.
By 1994 Chuck's customer base grew enough to where he began operating his shop on a regular part-time basis during evenings and weekends. Chuck's experience, knowledge, and understanding of the local racing rules he gained while working at the racetrack gave him an edge that enabled him to pack maximum power into his motors while still staying within the legal boundaries of the rulebook.
It didn't take long for the racing community to notice that his motors were regularly running up front, winning races and track championships. The word of mouth spread quickly and many more racers began running his motors. Finally on April 1, 1998, Chuck resigned from CarQuest and he and his wife Cyd officially opened the doors to Willard Auto Machine, Inc. full-time.
In 2001 Willard Auto Machine expanded its services by adding a Land & Sea Pro Series engine dynomometer. The shop was remodeled to add a dyno cell room, which houses the dyno in a controlled testing lab environment. An adjacent dyno monitor room was also added, where the computer that runs and controls the dyno is located. The addition of the dyno now allows Chuck to test and study the performance of the motors he builds, in order to continually search for additional horsepower to give his customers that competitive edge.
